MERCH: The "Runwell" Watch by Shinola

The "Runwell" Watch
Detroit, MI

$475 - $850

I first heard of Shinola a year ago when word got around that a new company had moved into a 60,000 sqft floor within the Argonaut Building in Detroit. This building was erected by General Motors back in 1928 to house their design departments. Since GM's move into the new Renaissance Center building downtown, the Argonaut (recently renamed the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education) has become home to the College for Creative Studies' design studios. Within this 60,000 square foot location Shinola has begun production of their first watch, the Runwell. Assembly of their Argonite 1069 movement (named after the building) is done in house. Leather for the band is sourced from Horween, the oldest tannery in the country, based right here in Chicago. The Runwell is pure class with some tastefully modern details that really set it apart.

The Runwell will be available for pre-sale in mid-March, with full availability in June/July 2013. Keep an eye out for more from Shinola in the near future, including custom bicycles and leather goods. In the meantime, you can learn more about the Argonaut building and Shinola's assembly factory via the videos below.
